COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING

The faculty of the Department of Architecture
University of Washington

on the advice of the Thesis Award Committee
hereby tenders

a citation for exceptional achievement
and the 1987 Medal to

THOMAS P. DEERING, Master of Architecture

for his thesis accepted August 1986

entitled

"An Alternative Design Proposal for the Wy'East Day Lodge,
Mount Hood Oregon"

Committee:      Galen Minah, Chair, First Year
Tom Bosworth, Chair, Second Year
Bob Albrecht

The Committee was impressed with the overwhelming comprehensiveness of Deering's approach to his subject, substantial enough to be the equivalent of three thesis efforts in terms of quality: 1) an historical review of mountain architecture with philosophical observations; 2) a design of a new facility for the Timberline complex; and 3) computer drawings of the site, existing buildings, and the proposed alternative lodge design, This thesis represents a quality of achievement truly acknowledging appropriate standards for a master's thesis in architecture.

Done in Seattle this twenty-seventh of May in the year nineteen hundred eighty seven.
